Here are 12 of the most asked questions regarding ordering your wedding cake. We
hope
you find them helpful.
1) Q.- When do I need to order my cake?
A.- The earlier the better. At CakesbyPam we create a limited
number of cakes per
weekend therefore as soon
as the deposit is paid the time is booked for you this
is especially relevant in
the busy summer months.
Even if you do not require a
cake- e.g. the banquet hall or caterer is providing
a cake or your Mom or Aunt is
making the cake, you may wish to order some of our edible bonboniere such as
chocolate truffles, sugar cookies or other items you
can view on our
"SWEET TREATS" page.
(click on sweet treats to go to page)
2) Q.- How much cake do I need?
A.- This totally depends on the number of guests you are
expecting at your reception
and whether you are
serving the cake for dessert or as part of a sweet table
later in the night. See
the "SERVINGS CHART"
(click on servings chart to go to
page) for approximate
amount of cake you will require.
3) Q.- Do I need to have all tiers the same shape?
A.- No, different shapes such as round, square, hexagon and
petal can be
interchanged to make a truly custom cake. Some of the most elegant
cakes have an assortment of complimentary shapes.
4) Q.- Do I need to have all tiers the same flavour?
A.- No, each tier can be of a different flavour cake and/or
filling.
5) Q.- Does the configuration of the cake have to be the same, all stacked or
all pillared?
A.- No, any number of the tiers can be stacked or pillared or
totally separate to make
any number of
configurations.
6) Q.- If I am having a small wedding reception but I want a large cake, how is
this
done?
A.- A cake can be made to seem larger by adding a dummy base tier.
This tier would
be a slightly lesser cost than the
equivalent real cake but would be decorated
exactly the same as the real cake tiers.
7) Q.- What are Gumpaste Flowers?
A.- Gumpaste flowers are usually wired into bouquets, sprays
and arrangements. The
paste is an edible
product made from sugars, gums and egg whites. The flowers
are make from the very
pliable paste one petal at a time. The most popular are
roses but an infinite
number of flowers can be made from gumpaste. The term
edible is a misnomer as
the paste itself is made from edible ingredients but
by the time the flowers
are wired and hardened they would not make a very tasty
meal.
Each individual petal is made
by hand and when finished and coloured with food
colours look exceptionally
lifelike without the problem of chemicals on live
flowers unless they are
organically grown. Also, these gumpaste arrangements
can be kept for years in
display cases.
8). Q.- What are fondant flowers?
A.- Fondant flowers are made from fortified fondant, the same
bridal icing covering
the cake. They can be
coloured with food colours and made without wires. The
arrangement lay across
the cake and can be cut easily at the same time as the cake
is cut. They are not as
fine as gumpaste flowers but look very nice. You can see
an example of these
flowers on the corporation page,
Community Living Cake,
the purple orchids.
9) Q.- Can I sample taste the cakes and fillings?
A.- Yes, you can make an appointment for tasting either at
the same time as the order
appointment or after the
order has been made.
10) Q.- Are all the cake flavours and fillings the same price.?
A.- No, depending on the type, flavour and
filling of cake you choose the cost can
vary due to
the difference in the cost of ingredients and time involved in
preparation.
11) Q.- How are the cakes priced?
A.- There is usually a base price per serving or
per size of cake, any additional decoration
and flowers are in addition to the base price.
12) Q.- Do I have to know what design I want before I make a cake appointment?
A.- No, we have a large selection of books and
photos for you to choose from. The
majority of
cake we create are a combination of different styles from different
cakes in the
books. This makes your cake a unique presentation and one you
will not be
seeing at the next dozen wedding you attend. |
